Glint

Fantasy Romance

★★★★☆ 4.25 Star Review

Description

For ten years, I’ve lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas’s golden castle. But one night changed everything. Now I’m here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom’s army, and I’m not sure if I’m going to make it out of this in one piece. They’re marching to battle, and I’m the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war.

At the heart of my fear, my worry, there’s him—Commander Rip. Known for his brutality on the battlefield, his viciousness is unsurpassed. But I know the truth about what he is. Fae. The betrayers. The murderers. The ones who nearly destroyed Orea, wiping out Seventh Kingdom in the process. Rip has power sizzling beneath this skin and glinting spikes down his spine. But his eyes—his eyes are the most compelling of all. When he turns those black eyes on me, I feel captive for an entirely different reason.

I may be out of my cage, but I’m not free, not even close. In the game of kings and armies, I’m the gilded pawn. The question is, can I out maneuver them?

Secrets have a price in this world, and we all have to pay. Even the girl made of gold.

I am so excited about this series pt. 2!!

Dare I say the male MC rivals Rhysand and Casteel Da’neer. Oh yes I still do. I love it.

Thoughts & Review: Characters and Romance

Auren has one of the most well-thought-out arcs I've read so far. I am amazed at how far she's come. She goes from a compliant captive, too naive to see how horribly she's been treated, to a young woman gradually realizing that she deserves much more than what she's been given. She comes face to face with many hard truths, and while she's not ready to acknowledge all of them, she makes significant progress. I am sure she hasn’t reached her full potential yet, and I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for her to fight full force with those ribbons.

After all, I’ve been lying to myself for years. Pretty lies cover up a lot of ugly truths.
— Glint

Commander Rip is supposed to be Auren's enemy, but he treats her with more respect and dignity than anyone else in her life. He is powerful and beautiful, and the complete opposite of Midas. In short, he is perfect.

When you let it go, when you finally let that out, your fury is going to light up the spirit you’ve shadowed”...”I hope you burn so bright that you scorch your Golden King down to ash.
— Glint

Other Characters

We also get introduced to many more characters making up the Fourth kingdoms army, and I am hopeful they are here to stay, cause I was impressed!

Romance

There's clearly something happening between Rip and Auren, although they barely share enough moments between them. There is so much tension between them in those few intense moments. However, many things keep them apart as well. Auren doesn't fully trust him yet, even though she clearly can't help her attraction to him. Also, she hasn't fully let go of her feelings for Midas yet, something she needs to remedy before she can acknowledge her growing feelings for Rip.

Thoughts & Review: Plot and Writing Style

Starts off good, gets even better!!

Glint is even better than Gild. The story progresses beautifully. Auren's life takes a turn for what seems like the worst but is actually the best outcome she could hope for given the circumstances. She might be at the mercy of an enemy kingdom, but It is also heavily character-centered, an intense journey of self-discovery, awakening, and empowerment.

Time changes with torment. It stretches on, lengthening seconds, extending minutes. I’ve learned that pain and fear have a way of prolonging. And as if that weren’t cruel enough, our minds make sure we relive those moments again and again and again, long after they’ve passed.
